Domenico Scarlatti will be remembered as one of the most original composers of his century and his music has maintained a foothold in the repertoire of today’s pianists. His reputation stems primarily from his approximately 600harpsichord sonatas written for his young student Princess Maria Barbara, who eventually became Queen of spain. These sonatas have been preserved in large collections in important European libraries in Venice, Paris, Munster andVienna.
